Hey there... after planning a month of completely raw while on annual leave to 'get back in the swing of things', but then having both my computer and car die leaving me rather bored with green smoothies and salads only, I feel much more motivated and prepared having read over this site. It's looking great!! Thanks :)

L.S.A is ground Linseed (also called Flaxseed), Sunflower seeds and Almonds. You can either grind them yourself or buy it already ground and mixed from health food shops and sometimes the supermarket. Once opened keep L.S.A in a sealed container in the fridge as it is full of essential fatty acids.

Ooooh, this sounds so awesome! If you ever peek at my blog, Thrive is highlighted in a big way, lol. I'll have to pop over to his website and check it all out. I don't know if I could joing the 30 day challege - I'm not the most disciplined person in the world, but I'd love to get those updates!

My concern with the Vega products is that they are rather expensive - I've been enjoying making the engergy bars from his book (there are several) as well as his many smoothie recipes. I bought a bulk bag of hemp protein as well as a nice blend of pea protein and a host of other goodness (like live vitamins, etc). so hopefully I'm covered. Maybe when the budget allows, I'll sneak in some Vega just to experiment.

(so glad I'm seeing more posts here... It's fun seeing what you're exploring next!)

I would use 1 large zucchini and 2 tablespoons of olive oil which would blend to a creamy consistancy and give you 250 calories instead of macadamia nuts which give you a wooping 700 calories... Yikes!
I would also add 1/2 tsp tumeric for its anti inflamatory properties and if you like a savory almost cheesy flavor then a little brewers or nutritional yeast. It also gives it the flavor depth that you miss without the macadamia nuts.
I am also 40 and took up running just a year ago whilst also giving up complex carbohydrates... never felt better

Oh and broccoli salad is one of my favorite things... especially leftovers for lunch.
Happy running!

This sounds delicious! If I was to make it with zucchini, about how much would I use? (I agree with you about the nuts - which is why I sometimes look for alternatives to the Thrive recipes). I am *trying* to run, lol. I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm a runner - at 40 I'm primarily trying to find the right fitness plan for my body type. It's definitely a journey and so far, the running has been fun.

(Btw, your broccoli salad also looks amazing!)

Me too but I think that is ok. I like to think of them as express nutrition and I am not getting a lot of calories from them (less than 200cals) so I dont expect them to replace a meal. I
I also love Brendon Brazier's book Thrive. I noticed from your blog you are a runner. If you run a lot you will need the extra calories from the nuts. I think I ate too many nuts when I first went Raw Vegan and put on weight but now I get more protein from lower fat alternatives like pea protein powder mixed in a shake.
I do make a nut/choco/maca/dried fruit bar as a energy snack for the days I run and try not to eat them on the days I don't have increased nutritional needs. Easier said than done... they are yummy.

I have Victoria's book on green smoothies, and I generally love them - my only concern is that, honestly, if I just blend them as directed I feel hungry again a few hours later (or less). I've simply got to add some hemp protein, hemp or EFA oil, at the least.

I'm finding Brendan Brazier's book, Thrive, to be very helpful in this regard... and he is quite heavy on nuts and seeds. Unless I start to gain weight, I'm not sure this is so bad? All things in moderation... :)
